[Portrait] A new Lebanese Ambassador accredited to the EU
(BRUSSELS2) The Lebanese ambassador stationed in Brussels, Adnan Mansour, had left since June, promoted to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs. And since then, no one has been appointed to replace him. A vacancy which did not only concern the Brussels post. Most appointments to diplomatic posts were blocked: 39 positions were vacant. An agreement was reached at the end of last October, as mentioned in the Lebanese press, between the various political leaders of the March 8 movement and the religious (details here). It is thus Rami Mortada who will occupy the position of representative of the country of Cedar to Belgium and the European Union.
The new ambassador) Brussels is a graduate of Paris V University, René Descartes (1992-1994), where he completed a DEA in international law; from the Lebanese University (1989-1992) and the American University of Beirut (1987-1991). He was posted in Oman (1996-1999), in Paris, as First Secretary (1998-2001), in New York, as consul general (2001-2004) before returning to Beirut, as chief of staff of the minister of Foreign Affairs (2004-2009) then in Damascus, where since 2009 he held the position of first advisor and then ambassador to the Syrian Republic.
