First and foremost law professor

Born February 3, 1955 in Łódź, lawyer, university professor and law professor, Zbigniew Rau graduated in 1977 from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Łódź. He went on to complete a doctorate, which he completed in 1982.

From 1981 to 1995, Zbigniew Rau taught outside Poland. We note its presence in German, Dutch, British, American and Australian universities, including the big names of the University of Limburg (Maastricht), Trinity College, Cambridge, the Department of Government, University of Texas at Austin, the Stanford University, or the Australian National University (Canberra).

In 1995, he returned to his roots: he worked at the University of Lodz, where he became president of the department of political and legal doctrines. He then obtained his post-doctoral degree in law (1996), before becoming a law professor (in 2005), and becoming head of the Alexis de Tocqueville Center for Political and Legal Ideas (2007).

Its political area: Łódź

In 1980, he joined the independent independent trade union "Solidarity" (Solidarnosc), the democratic opposition in communist Poland. There he became an expert responsible for verifying nominations to the inter-company founding committee of the Łódź region. His appetite for politics grew.

In 2005-2007, he was elected senator, and became a member of the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe. From 2015 to 2019, he was re-elected senator. A position he holds alongside that of governor of the province of Łódź.

In 2019, he moved to the lower house of the Polish Parliament, as a Diet deputy. Zbigniew Rau chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee there, and heads the Polish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He also heads the Polish-British parliamentary group. He will remain in this position until August 2020, and his appointment as minister.
