(BRUSSELS2) Speaking on the questions of the measures taken by Serbia with regard to Russia (*), the spokesperson for the European Commission made a point of indicating that Serbia, as long as it is not a member full member of the European Union, is not bound to follow the restrictive measures taken by the European Union, in particular with regard to Russia.

A call not to take advantage of the situation

More generally, the European spokesperson also wished to recall that the European Union expects candidate countries or third countries not to take advantage of the Russian embargo on food products of the member states of the European Union. He quotes the conclusions of the exceptional meeting of foreign ministers on August 15: “ With a view to ensuring the unity of the international community and ensuring respect for international law, the European Union expects candidate countries and third countries to refrain from measures aimed at exploiting new commercial opportunities arising from the measures Russians of retaliation".
